HOW GREAT THINGS THE LORD JESUS HAS DONE FOR ME

Testimony of Bart De Wolf, Graduate in Information Technology

On this page we will have a closer look at the headlines of my testimony. I will give you some personal insights and biblical background on each of them.

But first I will give you a very brief overview of my life from my birth in 1966 until just before the Lord Jesus called me in 1998.

I was born in Belgium in 1966. I received the traditional infant baptism in Catholic church. My parents took us to church until I was about 12 years old. I learned about God and Jesus Christ in the christian religion classes I had at school from my 6 until my 18 years. I spent much time meditating about God and Jesus. I asked myself things like these: Did God really create this earth? If God created this earth, who then created God? Did Jesus Christ really walk on earth 2000 years ago? Did he really do all the things they told us about?

I studied a Degree in Information Technology at the Brussels Free University from 1984 until 1988. There I had no more religion classes. There was nothing that actively reminded me of God. I stopped thinking about God and Jesus. The fact is that I did not believe.

I graduated and started to work in 1988. I started a relationship with a university student. I drank. There was an abortion. I used codeine pills. I broke up that relationship in 1994. I went to prostitutes, erotic clubs and massage parlors. I was very keen on western and chinese astrology, I Tjing, Feng Shui, Yoga and so on.

I met a Salvadorian woman in Belgium in a Yoga class in 1995. In july of 1996 we moved to El Salvador in Central America. We married. Our first daughter was born december, 1996.

In february of 1997 I was invited to a breakfast meeting of Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship International . There I repeated a prayer to reconcile with God. In 1998 I started going to church, reading the Bible, asking God things, and so on. Actually I started to believe in God and in Jesus.

Since then I have experienced and seen a lot of amazing events and coincidences.

First I want to share an amazing thing that happened to me in 1998:

THE LORD JESUS CHRIST CALLED ME.

I was baptized on sunday, october 18, 1998, just 2 months after I was called. Now I will share another amazing thing that happened just five days after my baptism:

MY BODY ROLLED OVER THE FLOOR AND SHRIEKS CAME OUT OF MY MOUTH: AN EVIL SPIRIT CAME OUT OF ME.

Some event! Truly you must be amazed , just like the people were when Jesus had cast out an evil spirit of a man that was amidst them in the synagogue , as is related in the New Testament:

23 Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an evil spirit cried out,
24 "What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are--the Holy One of God!"
25 "Be quiet!" said Jesus sternly. "Come out of him!"
26 The evil spirit shook the man violently and came out of him with a shriek.
27 The people were all so amazed that they asked each other, "What is this? A new teaching--and with authority! He even gives orders to evil spirits and they obey him."
28 News about him spread quickly over the whole region of Galilee.
(Mark 1:23-28)

What is described here in the verses 25 and 26 literally happened to me on friday, october 23, 1998 when I was in that National Convention of the Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship in El Salvador. After the event I had no idea what it was that had happened to me, until I read these verses some time later. Anyway, it was this event that really put the fear of the LORD in me!

I want to state clearly the following: when that evil spirit came out of me I had been a member of the Fellowship for one year and a half already; and I had been going to church for over half a year already; and I had been baptized just five days before. I was a christian believer already, with the evil spirit still inside me. Then the Holy Spirit came over me with great power and made the evil spirit leave!

As I told you, when this happened most people had already left the room where we were having the Convention. But there are a few people who have witnessed this event:

• Rolando de León: a friend I had invited at the convenction. He lives in La Paz, San Pedro Masahuat, Miraflores.

Now the Lord has appointed me to be his witness:

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you ; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth . (Acts 1:8)
I took you from the ends of the earth, from its farthest corners I called you . I said, You are my servant; I have chosen you and have not rejected you. (Isaiah 41:9)
Announce this with shouts of joy and proclaim it. Send it out to the ends of the earth ; say, "The LORD has redeemed his servant Jacob." (Isaiah 48:20)

Okay, next I want to tell you about a coincidence that occurred just eight days after that evil spirit came out of me:

COINCIDENCE #1: I TESTIFIED LIVE ON TV IN A FELLOWSHIP EVENT THE DAY HURRICANE MITCH INVADED EL SALVADOR.

Then there is a second coincidence I want to tell you about. It occurred at the beginning of 2001. Well, it really started at the end of 2000 when there was a dengue fever epidemic in El Salvador. One day the christian tv Channel 25 invited people to climb the San Salvador volcano to pray up there. I went. Up there I testified to one of the brothers. A few days later they called me from Channel 25 and videotaped my testimony. They sent the videotape to Enlace TBN in Costa Rica to be transmitted from there to all latin countries. Then time passed until early 2001, when there was another very amazing coincidence:

COINCIDENCE #2: A VIDEO TAPE OF MY TESTIMONY WAS BROADCAST BY ENLACE-TBN COSTA-RICA TOWARDS LATIN AMERICA THE DAY BEFORE THE BIG JANUARY 13, 2001 EARTHQUAKE IN EL SALVADOR.

I told you that when that first coincidence had occurred in 1998 I had been very impressed. After this second coincidence in 2001 I was really upset! I wondered: Oh Lord, am I supposed to tell people that this testimony was broadcast on tv and that one day later there was a big, devastating earthquake? Many people were buried alive during that earthquake!

In the evening of the day the earthquake occurred I was sitting outside in the street, together with my family and with all the neighbours. I had all this going through my mind, but how on earth was I going to tell those people sitting around me about this coincidence?

But why did that earthquake really occur?

The Lord reminded me of a passage that I had read about something similar that happened when Moses suffered an uprise leaded by Korah. Now look at what happened to these men:

28 Then Moses said, "This is how you will know that the LORD has sent me to do all these things and that it was not my idea:
29 If these men die a natural death and experience only what usually happens to men, then the LORD has not sent me.
30 But if the LORD brings about something totally new, and the earth opens its mouth and swallows them, with everything that belongs to them, and they go down alive into the grave, then you will know that these men have treated the LORD with contempt ."
31 As soon as he finished saying all this, the ground under them split apart
32 and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them, with their households and all Korah's men and all their possessions.
33 They went down alive into the grave, with everything they owned; the earth closed over them, and they perished and were gone from the community.
(Numbers 16)

I found another reason for which the Lord may bring an earthquake over a country in the book Amos:

4 Hear this, you who trample the needy and do away with the poor of the land ,
5 saying, "When will the New Moon be over that we may sell grain, and the Sabbath be ended that we may market wheat?"-- skimping the measure, boosting the price and cheating with dishonest scales,
6 buying the poor with silver and the needy for a pair of sandals , selling even the sweepings with the wheat.
7 The LORD has sworn by the Pride of Jacob: "I will never forget anything they have done."
8 Will not the land tremble for this , and all who live in it mourn?

You must know that this prophecy was given to Amos just two years before a big earthquake:

The words of Amos, one of the shepherds of Tekoa--what he saw concerning Israel two years before the earthquake .
(Amos 1:1)

This Amos wasn't a full time prophet, but an ordinary man: a shepherd.

14 Amos answered Amaziah, " I was neither a prophet nor a prophet's son, but I was a shepherd , and I also took care of sycamore-fig trees.
15 But the LORD took me from tending the flock and said to me, `Go, prophesy to my people Israel.'

Amos was an ordinary man, but the Lord chose him to prophesy against the exploitation of the needy .

Half a year passed... Then on friday june 29, 2001 God did something very special :

I ASKED GOD TO DO "SOMETHING SPECIAL": A FIRE CUT OFF ELECTRICITY TO MY EMPLOYER'S DATABASE SERVERS AND IN THE CHAOS THAT FOLLOWED I HANDED OUT PRINTED COPIES OF MY TESTIMONY TO MY COLLEAGUES

To conclude my testimony's headlines here comes another coincidence:

COINCIDENCE #3: 2-IN-1: MY FIRST SON (MY THIRD CHILD) WAS BORN THE DAY THE WTC TWIN TOWERS CAME DOWN. AND PENNSYLVANIA WHERE A PLANE CRASHED IS THE HOME OF THE US COMPANY THAT OWNS MY SALVADORIAN EMPLOYER.
